Overview
The Member Engagement page gives you a detailed view of an individual member's participation over time. It shows their current engagement score, how it's trending, what's driving it, and how it compares to a year ago, all in one place.
Use this page to understand a specific member's activity patterns and identify opportunities for outreach or recognition.
NOTE: Engagement scores are calculated automatically based on data recorded in the system, such as event bookings, committee meeting attendance, donations, shop orders, and login activity. They reflect what the system knows about a member's activity and are only as accurate as the data entered, for example, if meeting attendance isn't recorded, it won't be reflected in the score. Scores are intended as a guide to help identify trends and patterns, not as a definitive measure of a member's involvement with your organisation.
Login as Member
The login tracking does not get affected by using the "login as member" option within the Admin Portal for a member, so this is still suitable to use without skewing the metrics.
Where to find it
Open a member's profile and click the Engagement tab. You can also click any row in the Engagement Dashboard table to go directly to that member's engagement page.
What the page shows you
Summary and insights
At the top of the page, a plain-English summary describes the member's engagement level.
Below it, individual insight messages highlight what's going well and what might need attention:
- Positive insights (green tick) - areas where the member is active, e.g. "Strong event attendance"
- Warning insights (yellow triangle) - areas that may need attention, e.g. "Has not logged in recently"
- Info insights (blue circle) - contextual information, e.g. "This member has an inactive status"
The member's overall status badge and score are shown in the top-right corner.
Trend indicator
Next to the insights, a trend card shows whether the member's engagement is Improving, Stable, or Declining based on their recent score history. This is calculated by comparing their average score over the last 3 months against the 3 months before that.
Engagement timeline
A line chart shows the member's overall engagement score over time - up to 5 years of history. This makes it easy to spot seasonal patterns, the impact of specific events, or a gradual decline.
Use the date range filters above the chart to zoom into a specific period. The date range also applies to the metric charts below.
Hover over any chart to see the exact score at a specific point in time.
Metric charts
Below the timeline, individual charts show the score trend for each metric (Event Attendance, Committees, Donations, etc.). Each chart uses its own colour and shows the current score as a badge in the card header.
These charts make it easy to see which areas of engagement are improving or declining independently of the overall score. For example, a member's overall score might be stable, but their event attendance could be dropping while their committee participation is increasing.
Metric breakdown
A table shows each metric with:
- Context -a plain-English description of the member's activity, e.g. "8 of 12 eligible" for events or "On 2 committees, 6 of 8 meetings attended"
- Weight - how much this metric contributes to the overall score (as a percentage)
- Score - the individual metric score (0–100)
- Progress bar - a visual indicator colour-coded by score range
Year-over-year comparison
If historical data is available, a comparison table shows the member's current engagement alongside their engagement from approximately 12 months ago.
Each metric shows the context string for both periods and a change arrow indicating improvement, decline, or no change.
This is useful for annual reviews or understanding long-term trends in a member's participation.
Understanding the metrics
| Metric | How it's scored | Example context |
|---|---|---|
| Event Attendance | Events attended as a proportion of events the member was eligible to attend (based on ticket restrictions and segments) | "8 of 12 eligible" |
| Event Guests | Number of guests brought to events in the last 12 months | "6 in last 12m" |
| Committees | Committee membership and proportion of meetings attended (factoring in when the member joined each committee) | "On 2 committees, 8 of 12 meetings attended" |
| Donations | Active recurring donations score highest; one-off donations are counted by frequency | "Active recurring" or "2 in last 12m" |
| Shop Orders | Number of shop orders placed in the last 12 months | "3 in last 12m" |
| Login Recency | How recently the member logged in - score decays over time | "Logged in today" or "Last login 3 months ago" |
Only metrics that are relevant to your organisation are shown. If your organisation doesn't use committees or the shop, those metrics won't appear.
What it can tell you about a member
- Overall engagement level - the status badge and score give you an instant read on how active this member is
- What they're engaged with - the metric breakdown shows which areas they participate in most
- Whether they're becoming more or less engaged - the trend indicator and timeline chart show the direction of travel
- Seasonal patterns - the timeline may reveal that a member is very active during certain months (e.g. around annual dinners) but quiet at other times
- Year-on-year changes - the comparison table highlights whether engagement has improved or declined compared to the same period last year
- Specific areas for outreach - if a member has strong event attendance but has never logged in, you might encourage them to explore the members area. If they're on committees but not attending meetings, a conversation with the committee chair might help
How often is data updated?
When you open a member's Engagement tab, their score is calculated live from the latest data. The timeline chart uses daily snapshots that are generated overnight, so historical trends are always up to date as of the previous day.
