Overview
Memb.rs allows for controlling how or if member data is made visible, both to the member themselves, and to other members in the directory when viewing a members profile.
Memb.rs typically breaks down the various member data fields in to three distinct sections.
This separation of data is most visible in the administrative area, however the members area follows the same distinctions.
Each section and their respective data fields can be customised based on your requirements, the example images shown below are for example only.
| Section | Default Visibility To Member | Default Visibility To Others | Member Editable By Default? | Member Can Override Visibility To Others? |
| Summary | Visible* | Configurable | Yes* | Yes* |
| Profile | Visible* | Configurable | Yes | Yes |
| Data | Hidden* | Configurable | No | Yes |
* Please see the relevant section information below for details
Please note that Memb.rs can also be configured to only show members in the Members Area directory based on specific criteria, for example, you may only wish for those members who are active and have registered in the members area to be shown in the directory. Members that don't meet this criteria will not be listed.
This allows for active members to log in and review their profile data and to hide any fields they don't want shown before it is listed in the directory.
Members Area
Nearly any field from these sections can be configured to be displayed on members profile pages that can be viewed by the member/other members.
These are shown in cards, these cards can be customised based on how you wish to group the data shown, and which data fields are shown on them.
An example profile is shown below, several cards have been used to group information, such as the Overview and Personal cards.
The Additional Membership Information section is detailed in the Data section of this article.
Directory
Members who are visible in the directory also may have key information about them shown on their directory card.
These data fields can be configured based on your requirements, but will always show a profile photo (if added) and the members display name at a minimum.
If a member hides any of these fields (or the information is not in their profile) then the field will not be shown.
Administrative Area
Summary
This holds the typical data fields you will record about a member, such as name, address, email and phone numbers.
Example Summary tab shown in the Administrative area
Member Editable?
By default yes, however each Summary data field can be configured to be read-only from a member.
Member Visible?
By default yes, however each Summary data field can be configured to be hidden from a member.
Visible To Other Members?
Each Summary data field can be configured to be shown or hidden from other members.
The display of each Summary data field depends on which of the data fields you wish to be shown on a members profile when other members view them in the directory.
If a Summary data field is listed on the members profile then the member can choose to make that data field hidden from other members.
Exceptions
Name
A members display name cannot be hidden by a member as it will always be displayed against them.
Profile Image

If the member does not wish to have their profile image visible then they can remove it.
Status

Display Name Format

Bio

GDPR
A member can control individual data fields visibility.
To make their whole profile hidden then the member must contact an administrator to select this in the admin area.
Profile
The Profile section contains data fields that are used for capturing information about a member, such as their interests, spouse or similar information you may wish to record.
Example Profile tab shown in the Administrative area
Member Editable?
By default yes, however each Profile data field can be configured to be read-only from a member.
Member Visible?
By default yes, however each Profile data field can be configured to be hidden from a member.
Visible To Other Members?
Each Profile data field can be configured to be shown or hidden from other members.
The display of each data field depends on which of the data fields you wish to be shown on a members profile when other members view them in the directory.
If a Profile data field is listed on the members profile then the member can choose to make that data field hidden from other members.
Data
The Data section holds data fields regarding a members service within your organisation, such as joining dates, status, role etc and is specifically intended to be managed by an administrator.
Example Data tab shown in the Administrative area
By default the Data data fields are hidden from a member and other members, this can be overridden on a field by field basis.
Regardless of whether the field is visible to a member or not, they cannot modify Data data fields.
Member Editable?
No, the Data section is for data that can only be modified by an administrator in the admin area.
Member Visible?
By default no, however this can be overridden so that specific Data data fields are shown only to the member for their reference.
If any fields are shown to the member and not listed on their profile cards then this information will be displayed at the bottom of the profile in the Additional Membership Information section.
This section is only visible to the member themselves when they view their profile.
Visible To Other Members?
Each Data data field can be configured to be shown or hidden from other members, such as a members status in the organisation.
The display of each Data data field depends on which of the data fields you wish to be shown on a members profile when other members view them in the directory.
If a Data data field is listed on the members profile then the member can choose to make that data field hidden from other members.
