Each page is required to have a page Category set before it can be published.
Categories allow for content to be logically sectioned within the members area, allowing for articles such as news or updates to be shown on relevant members area sections.
Categories can effectively live in one of two areas:
- The News/Updates section, which is chronologically ordered by published date/time
- The Company Information section, which is for more static content, such as company contacts, galleries of past events etc
Pages are then assigned to one of the categories, and this dictates where it is displayed in the Members Area.
To create a new Category go to the Pages section within the administrative area.
Press the New Category button.
Add a name for the Category.
An optional category header image can also be added, this will be shown if the category is not in the News & Updates section (this may be titled differently for each client, eg Noticeboard, News, etc).
The image should be a 4:1 ratio image, the uploader will provide a crop tool.
If a header image is not uploaded, and the category is in the Information section, then the default Information header image will be used instead.
An example of categories with headers that are stored in the Information section is shown below
The "Show this category in the News & Updates section" checkbox can be ticked if the category is to be shown on the News & Updates section (this may be titled differently for each client, eg Noticeboard, News, etc) of the members area, it is most appropriate for news articles or updates that can be shown chronologically. The naming for this will vary by client as it is based on the specific name chosen for your news articles section.
Unticking the "Show this category in the News & Updates section" checkbox means that the category and any pages added to it are shown in the Information section of the members area. This is more useful for pages such as those with company information or contact details.
The "Hide this category from being displayed on either the News & Updates or Company Information sections" checkbox can be ticked to hide the category from either the News & Updates or Company Information sections and is useful for assigning hidden pages to.
Once completed, press the Create button, this will create the Category and refresh the page.
When you next create a new Page the Category list will be updated with the new Category.
Additionally, existing pages can have their category changed to the added category, go to the page to be modified and update the Page Metadata category and save.
